About this work
The three Fates Lachesis, Atropos and Clotho sit in a room and spin the thread of life. They determine the life course and lifespan by measuring and cutting the thread of life. One holds the spindle, the other turns the thread and the third cuts it off. To the right in the background children play, to the left a woman lies in bed and three women care for a newborn child. Below the image is a text in Latin, numbered in the left margin: 1. The print is part of a series of allegorical prints on the life of man.
