About this work

Stephen is stoned outside the city gate. Right stands Saul with the cloaks of those throwing stones. In the clouds Stephen sees in a vision Christ and the Tetragram as a symbol for God the Father. Print is part of a series on the eight Beatitudes of Christ and illustrates the Beatitude: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake. In the left lower corner this text from Matt. 5:10 in Latin. At the bottom in the margin a verse in Latin about the Beatitude and the scene.
