About this work

Allegorical representation of Christ as the Bridegroom (Sponsus) crowning his kneeling bride (Sponsa). The woman holds a palm branch. Christ sits on a throne, trampling Death depicted as a skeleton and the devil. Above the bridal couple, the Holy Spirit appears in the form of a dove. Through a doorway, the carrying of the cross by Christ and the criminals and Mount Golgotha with the three crosses are visible. In the upper left, a coat of arms with the instruments of the Passion. In the margin, a six-line inscription in three columns in Latin.
