About this work
The sculpted bust of draughtsman and printmaker Jan de Bisschop stands on an antique sarcophagus; above it flies Fame blowing a trumpet with the symbol of eternity (a snake biting its own tail). To the left of the bust sits the personification of history (Historia) with a quill and an open book in her hands. To the right, the personified art of drawing holds a drawing; at her feet, putti study a book.
