About this work

Minerva (Pallas Athene) sits on a chair, holding a spear in one hand and a mace in the other, next to a pedestal with the coat of arms of Gelderland, upon which a doctoral hat and a bull are placed. In the background is Harderwijk. In the frame of the scene are four coats of arms; top left Zutphen, in the middle the coat of arms of Nijmegen, top right the coat of arms of Arnhem, on the pillar the coat of arms of Harderwijk. Title page of dissertations published since 1756 at the University of Harderwijk (the Gelderse Universiteit).
