Vignette with the appointment of Mary of Hungary as Governor of the Netherlands

Charles V hands the scepter to Mary of Hungary, who kneels before him. The figure behind him crowns Charles V with a laurel wreath. Hercules and Minerva stand behind them as personifications of strength and wisdom, behind a putto with a cornucopia filled with money. The building on the left is decorated with the coats of arms of the various provinces. In front of it lies the lion of the States General with a bundle of arrows. In the center stands a woman with a coat of arms and above her Fame flies with a trumpet. On the right stands a dog as a symbol of fidelity next to a woman with an imperial crown, a globus cruciger and a staff with a chi-rho symbol as personification of the Holy Roman Empire. Next to her Mercury floats with a money bag. Around the scene an ornamental border with two trumpets and a scroll with a Latin text. At the bottom a medallion with the emblem of Charles V.
