Allegorical Representation on the Occasion of the Silver Wedding of Jacobus de Vos and Katharina van de Ryp

Allegorical scene created for the silver wedding of Jacobus de Vos and Katharina van de Ryp, celebrated in Haarlem on April 13, 1723. A married couple sits on a bench, accompanied by Love and Fidelity. On the right, at an altar, stand Piety and the marriage god Hymen. The scene is framed in an ornamental border, above a depiction of the couple Philemon and Baucis. They receive a visit from two strangers, and despite their poverty, they decide to slaughter their goose. The guests turn out to be Jupiter and Mercury, who then fulfill the couple's wishes as a thank you for their hospitality.
