About this work

Poetry and an allegorical female figure with wings on her head decorate a statue of Diana of Ephesus with garlands of flowers. The scene is framed in an ornamental border. On the left is Poetry. On the right is Painting, with a cloth tied over her mouth. This refers to Horace's Ut pictura poesis (Poetry is like painting).
