About this work
Amor holds a sign with the number one in his hand and hangs it in a tree. Under his foot, he tramples the sign with the numbers one, two, and three. Just as a divided stream loses its strength in its course, so divided love also loses its strength. Thirty-sixth emblem from Emblemata Amatoria.
