About this work

Men force a crown of thorns onto Christ's head. A man kneels before him and offers him a reed as a staff. On the right, a man in a fur cloak with a sabre at his belt, a man with a plume on his head, and soldiers look on. In the front right, a dog. Below the image, the title in Latin, four four-line verses in Dutch, and a reference to the biblical text in Matthew 27:28.
