About this work

Allegorical representation of the trade in woven fabrics. Minerva, as patroness of spinning and weaving, is flanked by Justice with scales and Prudence with a mirror. Mercury, the god of trade, flies in and Fortuna scatters her riches from a cloud. In the background goods are purchased at a counter and brought by ships. Around the representation a gate with the personification of shipping in the upper left and the city maiden of Amsterdam in the upper right. At the bottom river gods. Print made for the trade of Jan van Oosterwyk.
