About this work

The prodigal son has squandered his inheritance and works as a swineherd for a farmer. He kneels by the pigs and eats with them from the trough. To the left in the background, the prodigal son is driven out of the brothel because his money is gone. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the biblical text in Luke 15 and in the margin four four-line verses in Dutch.
