About this work

Vignette with the portrait of the personified Charity in a cartouche. In the cartouche frame at the top is a pelican incorporated feeding her young with blood from her own breast. Charity is veiled, next to her sit two small children. The print is part of a series of book illustrations on virtues and vices.
