About this work

During the journey to Rome, Paul's ship is shipwrecked off the coast of Malta. On the left, the inhabitants of Malta have built a fire for the shipwrecked. Paul is bitten by a venomous snake while at the fire but remains unharmed. Below the image, the title in Latin, two two-line verses in Dutch, and a reference to the biblical text in Acts 27 and 28.
