About this work

In the foreground, a celebrating company at a table (left) and a praying man (right). The narrow path leads to heaven, represented as a palace bathed in heavenly light; the broad path leads to hell, represented as a burning castle with the gaping mouth of the monster in the moat. A devil in the foreground tries to pull a man off the good path with a rope. Christ looks on from a cloud. The various figures and scenes are indicated with letters A-P, referring to the legend in the margin.
