About this work

The oval portrait of the writer Ludvig Holberg is flanked by the Muse of Comedy, Thalia, and an angel holding a cornucopia filled with books. Thalia presents the spectators with her various comedies written by Holberg. Above her flies an angel blowing a trumpet. In the background, Apollo, surrounded by his Muses, plays the lyre.
