About this work
When Douwe Mout begins his European tour with Clara in 1745, he has advertisements printed in two formats. Clara is always depicted in profile. In this small version, a man with a bow and arrow references the hunting party during which the young calf was captured. The extensive text states, among other details, that she weighs close to 5000 pounds, about 2500 kilograms.
