About this work
Truth, a woman with a sun above her head, describes the lives and deeds of Dutch painters and tramples Envy and Sloth. Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, stands by her side. Fame blows the trumpet. The stone relief shows a painter, besieged by Father Time and the sleeping Sloth. Beside them stand Venus as Beauty and Geometry, encouraging him to create good art.
