About this work

Truth, a woman with a sun above her head, describes the lives and deeds of Dutch painters and tramples Envy and Laziness. Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, stands by her side. Fame blows a trumpet. The stone relief depicts a painter besieged by Father Time and the sleeping Laziness. Beside them stand Venus as Beauty and Geometry to encourage him to create good art.
