About this work

The personification of Faith (Fides), with a cross and a chalice in her hands, her foot on the papal tiara. Above her head a flame is kindled, symbol of divine inspiration. A man points her to the Tables of the Law. A monk with a mask spies on her and laughs slyly. In the background an altar, a pyramid, a mosque and a church. An Islamic man intends to attack the True Faith with a sword.
