About this work

On the left, recruits are registered and armed. On the right, they are paid a sum. In the middle and in the background they are seen being trained. On the left in the background the walls of a city. Below the image a six-line French verse. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 incl. title print) prints depicting various kinds of misery that warfare brings with it.
