About this work

On a monastery grounds, soldiers rob items from buildings and load them onto a cart. Nuns and monks are taken prisoner. The monastery church is on fire. Below the image a six-line French verse. This print is part of a series of 17 (18 incl. title print) prints depicting various kinds of misery that warfare brings with it.
