Adversity makes us long for heaven

The child, however, refuses to eat. Above the cartouche the title (motto) of the print and a quote from the Bible (Psalm 72:25, now Psalm 73:25). Below the print an inscription: 'Speent uwen appetijt, Daer ghy door schade lijdt.' and a description that explains the print. Children must learn that they cannot permanently have the breast. Analogously, humans must learn that earthly life does not always go smoothly.
