About this work

Page from a book (p. 150) with text and printer's device on the verso. In an oval cartouche, a criminal is being publicly punished. He is being beaten with a rod and will later be branded. Above the cartouche, the title (motto) of the print and a biblical quote (Psalm 66:11). Below the print, an inscription: 'Look to the right, not to the servant' and a description explaining the print. Just as in judicial procedures the executioner is merely the executor of the law, adversity is merely the executor of God's will.
