Adversity protects us from the devil

Above the cartouche, the title (motto) of the print and a biblical quote (Psalm 22:17-20). Below the print, an inscription: 'Against misfortunes, fine crutches serve' and a description explaining the print. A beggar leaning on a knee crutch is pitiable, but he can defend himself against dogs with his crutches; similarly, a man must use his adversity in life to strengthen himself against the devil.
