Adversity teaches one to live well

In each of the alcoves a man lies sick in bed. Some hold a cross while others raise their hands to heaven. Above the cartouche the title (motto) of the print and a quote from the Bible (Ecclesiastes 31:2). Below the print an inscription: 'Seer sieck te zijn is medecijn' and a description that explains the print. Those who have been sick have more respect for life. Thus, setbacks teach us to love life.
