About this work
Cephalus sits in grief on the ground, the body of the dead Procris in his arms. The spear that pierced her lies in the foreground, the dogs of Cephalus lie next to it. Putti with startled faces stand and hover around the unhappy couple. Scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses (Met. VII, 795-866).
