About this work

Under a tree Mary rests with the Christ Child in her arms. In the background Joseph lies against a tree and the donkey grazes in the grass. In the foreground John the Baptist and two angels play with a lamb. One of the angels urges John with a hand gesture to silence and points to the sleeping Child.
