About this work
Deucalion and Pyrrha kneel before the oracle of Themis, the enthroned Justice. Both are the only two survivors of the flood that Jupiter sent upon the world. Justice advises them to go to a field, cover their faces, and throw stones behind their backs. In the background on the right, the couple follows this advice. The stones turn into children on the ground.
