About this work
Above, an angel kneeling before the Christ child in a manger in a stable. Mary, Joseph, and two oxen look on. Below, a goddess of vengeance descending upon the walled city of Amsterdam. She holds a burning torch in her right hand with which she sets the city on fire. Behind her, Valkyries (goddesses of war) descend upon the city. Above the city, the text 'urbs antiqua ruit'. The whole surrounded by a rectangular ornamental border with floral and plant motifs.
