About this work
Two scenes on one sheet. Top: Judah orders the fire to be lit to burn his daughter-in-law Tamar. He wants to punish her because she behaved like a prostitute and became pregnant. Tamar, however, shows him his staff and signet ring, proving that he made her pregnant. In the middle below a reference to the biblical text in Gen. 38:25. The scene is framed in an ornamental border. Bottom: Pharaoh appoints Joseph as vice-king of Egypt by placing his signet ring on his hand. In the middle below a reference to the biblical text in Gen. 41:42. The scene is framed in an ornamental border.
