About this work
After the battle against the Midianites, the Israelites purify all fire-resistant objects in the fire. What has been passed through the fire and everything that is not fire-resistant is purified with water. Moses gives the order in the middle to do this. In the middle below a reference to the biblical text in Num. 31:23. The scene is framed in an ornamental border with a mask, eagle, shell, scrollwork, garlands and leafy vines.
