Appearance of spirits on the Oudeschans in Amsterdam, on the evening of 8 and 9 October 1833. Along the quay move the ghostly white shapes of women in long gowns. In the foreground and on the bridge, the assembled spectators. The 'spirits' were produced by some students using magic lantern slides.
