About this work

Europa's desperate maidservants watch from the shore as she is carried away into the sea on the back of the bull (Jupiter). Putti hold the flower garlands with which Europa decorated the bull. Below the image an explanatory text in French. Scene from Ovid's Metamorphoses (Met. II, 836-875).
