Rear and side view of two cannons by Benningh

Two cannons cast by the foundry of Albert Benningk or Benningh in Lübeck and donated to the States-General in 1669 as thanks for the prompt payment of the artillery supplied by him. Both cannons are richly decorated with allegorical representations relating to the Republic's naval struggle. On the cannons are the coats of arms and names of the deputies responsible for military equipment: Johan Eleman and Gerard Hasselaer. At the top a large allegorical coat-of-arms trophy with the Lion of Holland flanked by Minerva, Hercules and Neptune. Accompanied by a text band with the dedication to the States of Holland and West Friesland. At the bottom a Latin text of six lines.
