Rear and side view of two cannons by Benningh

Two cannons manufactured by the foundry of Albert Benningk or Benningh in Lübeck and donated to the States-General in 1669 as thanks for the prompt payments of the artillery supplied by him. Both cannons richly decorated with allegorical depictions relating to the struggle of the Republic at sea. On the cannons the coats of arms and names of the delegates responsible for the military equipment: Johan Eleman and Gerard Hasselaer. At the top a large allegorical armorial trophy with the Lion of Holland flanked by Minerva, Hercules and Neptune. Hereby a text band with the dedication to the States of Holland and West-Friesland. At the bottom a Latin text of 6 lines.
