About this work
Apollo stands with a burning torch next to a Muse draped in a garment decorated with musical notes. Her arm rests on a pillar upon which a viola lies; the relief of the pillar shows musical Muses. In the background on the left, cyclopes with hammers stand around an anvil; on the right, a composer is playing music.
