About this work

Apollo stands with a burning torch next to a Muse who is wrapped in a garment decorated with musical notes. Her arm rests on a pillar on which a viola lies, the relief of the pillar shows Muses playing music. On the left in the background cyclopes stand with hammers around an anvil, on the right a figure sits playing music.
