About this work
The events in garlands relate to the return of Willem I Frederik, Prince of Orange, to the Netherlands in 1813. On the left, Van Hogendorp and other regents gather to discuss the return of Willem I from England. On the right, Willem I arrives on the beach in Scheveningen. At the top is the portrait of King Willem I surrounded by flags, banners, and coats of arms. At the bottom, Russian soldiers are camping who came to the aid of the Dutch troops. In the middle, the arrival of the new king in Amsterdam on the Haarlemmerplein.
