About this work
Hercules sits next to Omphale, queen of Lydia, who has her arm around him. As a slave-servant and lover of Omphale, Hercules became 'feminine'; he wore women's clothes and did 'feminine' things like spinning yarn. Here he holds Omphale's distaff in his hands. She has his arrow and bow, the lion skin, and club lying at her feet.
