About this work
Illustration with the death of Matamore, one of the characters from the story *Capitaine Fracasse* by Théophile Gautier. Slumped against a tree sits the dead body of Matamore buried under the snow. In the dark approaches a group of three men, Tyran, Blazius and Sigognac with a lantern that illuminates the path before them.
