About this work

The painting with the glorification of Cornelis de Witt, with the Tocht naar Chatham (June 1667) in the background. On the left, a cornucopia with symbols of the prosperity and wealth of the country. In the sky, Fame with trumpets and putti with a laurel wreath. De Witt is depicted in armor and with a command staff as a sign of his function as plenipotentiary of the States-General to the fleet.
