About this work
The crowned maiden of Amsterdam sits on a throne, surrounded by allegorical figures. Beside her stands a female figure with the All-Seeing Eye on a staff; behind the throne sits Prudence with mirror and snake. To the left in the foreground History Writing with a quill and a history book in her hands. In the background the town hall on the Dam and statues of two river gods, the Amstel and the IJ.
