About this work

The marriage of Prince Willem II and Princess Maria Stuart on 2 May 1641. On the left, the parents of the bride: the English King Charles I and his wife Henrietta Maria. On the right, the parents of the groom: Frederick Henry and Amalia of Solms. In the background, allegorical figures of Love and Hope, and Justice and the Dutch Lion in the Dutch Garden. Above the couple, the dove of the Holy Spirit and putti with laurel wreaths. Below the scene, four Latin verses of four lines each.
