About this work
The city maiden of Haarlem sits by the coat of arms of Haarlem with a staff with a ribbon in her hands. On the ribbon is written: Salus Publica, general welfare. She rests her hand on a pedestal with the words: Deo et Patriae. Before the throne, putti with books, laurel wreaths, and a globe. An allegorical representation in which the city of Haarlem is presented as a promoter of science and the arts.
