About this work
A Neptune fountain, probably the fountain erected in Florence in honor of the entry of Johanna of Austria in 1565. In the center of the fountain, Neptune rides on a shell drawn by four sea horses. Around him are water nymphs. In the foreground, two putti on swans. A woman walks towards the fountain to fetch water.
