About this work
Christ sits in the clouds, flanked by Moses and Paul. Below them the dead rise from their graves. They are led by angels to heaven (left) or by devils to hell (right). Emblem no. 1 from Emblemata Saecularia, 1611: mortal and sinful humanity must answer before the divine judge.
