The cushion shell

A still life with a wooden pillow with softer material on top. In the open drawer a cup with sand, used for burning incense. Under the wooden pillow a print with the image of the Ship of Treasures, on which the Seven Lucky Gods sail into the harbor on New Year's Day. In the foreground a round box. Placing an image of the Ship of Treasures under the pillow at the beginning of the new year would result in a dream about the luck symbols: Mount Fuji, a falcon and aubergines; the most fortunate dream possible. These luck symbols are also hidden in the surimono itself: the pillow represents Fuji, with the white cushion as the snow-capped peak; Fuji, a falcon and two aubergines are depicted on the label of the round box, which contains pickled aubergine pieces. With two poems.
