About this work

Ono no Tôfû, or Michikaze (894-966) holding an umbrella, looking at a jumping frog. Ono no Tôfû was one of the three great calligraphers during the Heian period (794-1185). This depiction refers to an event from his youth, when he decided at the edge of a pond to continue his writing career after seeing a frog make endless attempts to jump to a willow branch. With two poems.
