About this work

The farmer Tanshô Kôkitsu walking over the rice fields. The 'True Story of Three Generations' mentioned in the title is a 50-part history of the years 858-887 and is compiled in 901. It is considered one of the Six National Histories of Japan. The poem on the print emphasizes filial piety, by equating it with the importance of the 'holy ropes that are strung over the rice fields'.
